The Tech Gazette is a daily paper of software and AI news. It has no ads, sets no cookies, and never ranks or changes anyone's page by what they do. This page says what is kept, and for how long.
Reading the paper
- In your browser only: your My Edition choices, the stories you follow, what you've read and clipped, and recent searches. Clearing site data removes them; none of it is sent to us.
- Anonymous counts: which pieces are opened, read to the end, marked, clipped or shared, and the day a browser first opened the paper, counted as totals per day. No id and no IP address are kept, and nothing is sent when your browser asks not to be tracked.
If you sign up or take part
- The daily e-mail: your address and your edition's settings, until you unsubscribe with the link in every e-mail; then they're deleted. Your share link's code is random, not made from your address, and only a count of the readers who subscribed through it is kept, never who they are; it shows in your own e-mails only.
- Notifications: the push address your browser gives, until you turn them off.
- Comments: your nickname and text, and hashes of your browser's key and network address so a ban holds. Delete a comment and it's gone.
- The Team plan: payments are handled by Stripe; the paper keeps only what it needs to know the plan is active.
The paper's Instagram and YouTube
The paper publishes its own posts and videos to its own Instagram account (@the.tech.gazette) and its own YouTube channel, through Meta's and Google's official APIs, and reads those posts' own numbers (views, reach, watch time) to learn which formats work. Apart from the comment keywords below, it doesn't read, collect or keep anything about the people who see, like or comment on them: their data stays with Instagram and YouTube, under their own privacy policies.
Comment keywords: comment the word GAZETTE on one of the paper's Instagram posts and the paper sends you one automatic private reply (a direct message) with the latest Monthly's PDF and the newsletter's link; comment the word COURSES and the reply lists free courses, each with its own page's link, and the paper's page of free courses; comment the word SKILLS and the reply lists the week's agent skills and tools, each with its own page's link, and the paper's Skills page; comment the word SELFHOST and the reply lists open-source apps you can run on your own server, each with its repository's link, and the paper's Rising on GitHub page; comment the word CERTS and the reply lists big-tech certifications, each with the vendor's own page's link, and the paper's list of them; comment the word CREDITS and the reply lists free cloud and API credit programs, each with the maker's own page's link, and the paper's list of them; comment the word PROMPTS and the reply has the prompts of the paper's prompts carousel in full, and the paper's page to copy them from. One reply per comment, whichever word it has. Only the comment's id is kept, for 30 days, so no comment is answered twice; not your name, your account or what you wrote.
Deleting your data
Unsubscribe, turn off notifications or delete a comment, and what was kept for it is deleted (and drops out of the paper's backups as they roll over). For anything else, or to ask what we hold, write to us through the feedback page and say what you'd like deleted; we answer and delete within 30 days. From Instagram and YouTube we keep nothing about people beyond those comment ids, which are deleted by themselves after 30 days.
